Mission Northwest Executive Minister Position Description

The Executive Minister of MISSION NORTHWEST is called to be the primary spiritual leader and the chief administrative officer of this Region. The Executive Minister will agree will live out the Great Commission (Matt 28:19-20), and agree to and support the Commonly Held Essentials and the Resolution on Human Sexuality of this Region and will provide leadership in implementing its Missional Objectives and Strategic Landmarks. 

As Spiritual Leader of the Region’s Mission, the Executive Minister shall:

1. Model biblical and theological maturity along with a vibrant relationship with Christ for the purpose of providing pastoral leadership for pastors and churches pursuing Christ’s mission in a challenging cultural context and time. The Executive Minister shall exhibit the fruit of the Spirit in their personal life (Gal 5:22-26).The Executive Minister shall practice self-care for emotional, physical, and relational health. 

2. Have a passion for the ministry of the local church, its witness, health, and growth. 

3. Develop strong, authentic relationships among Mission Northwest pastors and churches. Nurtures connections across the Region, churches to churches, pastors to pastors. 

4. Affirm and defend all theological affirmations and policies of MNW; enforcing them appropriately in accordance with the Region Board’s directives on these matters. 

5. Fulfill the role of pastor/episkopos, vision caster (embodied as well as verbally communicated), and director of the Region’s corporate mission. The Executive Minister originates and orchestrates strategies to achieve the Region’s mission, “Resourcing and developing churches that connect people with Jesus Christ.” These strategies are articulated and published in the form of annual Mission Northwest missional objectives. With input from the Region Board and church leaders, the Executive Minister evaluates these strategies annually in light of their effectiveness and the needs of the Region. 

6. Be responsible for organizing and leading the Mentor Pastor team and their corresponding Leadership Learning Communities.

7. Be responsible for organizing and promoting Leadership Tune-Up and occasional MNW gatherings in various locations and places around the Region for connection, training and worship. 

8. Lead the Region to engage with like-minded movements and networks through which resources are accessed, while, in turn, offering resources through these movements and networks that benefit others. 

9. Appreciate the Region’s historic baptistic roots, practice, and polity.

As the Organization’s Administrative Officer, the Executive Minister shall:

1. Be the chief administrative officer of the Region and the secretary of the Region Board. 

2. Fulfill the responsibilities of the Executive Minister to the national, regional and related agencies of the ABC-USA at an appropriate level as determined in discussion with the Region Board. 

3. Adhere to the accountable governance system of the Region as outlined in the bylaws, standing rules and boundary principles, and therefore, is accountable to the Region Board.  

4. Perform the duties of a corporate secretary, providing for the keeping of minutes for the Region Board and Executive Committee and for the safe keeping of all legal and corporate documents. 

5. Directly hire, supervise, evaluate and dismiss all Region staff. Oversee all office procedures and operations. 

6. Pursue the financial health of Mission Northwest through fundraising, developing a variety of income streams, working with the financial team to manage wisely the Region’s investments, and monitoring budgetary compliance while adhering to the highest ethical fiduciary standards. Responsible for financial accounting and reporting, as well as budget preparation and reporting. 

Additional Required Executive Minister Qualifications

1. Is an ordained American Baptist or Mission Northwest minister (or, will pursue recognition of ordination upon hire) 

2. A seminary graduate with a minimum of a Masters of Theology, or equivalent, from an accredited seminary. Masters of Divinity and additional post-graduate degrees desirable.

3. Willing to affirm and sign current “Common Essentials”,  “Human Sexuality Resolution”, and “Ministerial Ethics” documents. 

4. Able to relocate to the Post Falls area.
